CDL Program Description
The Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Certificate program at Hocking College instructs and trains for Class A Commercial Driver's License and Hazmat Training. Most tractor-trailer drivers are long-haul drivers and operate trucks with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) capacity: the combined weight of the vehicle, passengers, and cargo exceeding 26,000 pounds. This program trains drivers to transfer goods both locally and cross-country, sometimes spanning several states.
The trucking industry is in need of Class A and B drivers, and by current estimates, there are over 80,000 CDL drivers needed nationwide.
Hocking College's Commercial Truck Driver Training School lasts for 4 weeks at 160 hours, after which you test for your state-licensed CDL exam. The equipment used is made up of conventional model tractors with 53' trailers. After just one week of classroom training, the rest of the course consists of hands-on experience in our industry-standard vehicles. The program offers truck driver training in a variety of course models to fit any timeline. The training program courses vary in intensity and duration and can be utilized by new students, existing students, and corporate sponsors. Opportunities with a CDL are Plentiful
As the demand for goods increases, more truck drivers will be needed to keep supply chains moving.
Employment of heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers is projected to grow 6 percent from 2016 to 2026, about as fast as the average for all occupations.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are statements of what a student will be able to do when they have completed a program. They represent the knowledge and skills a program has determined are most important for students to gain from that program and include both the Success Skills (institutional outcomes) and Program Outcomes. SLOs are specific and measurable so the program can accurately assess the degree to which students have achieved each outcome, and they align with college and institution mission and values. Data on the achievement of SLOs is used to make improvements in the program and increase student success.
